New tree planting next to specimen tree
Correctly cared for, many well formed specimen trees can last for hundreds of years. When, planted centuries before, they can last and add to their surroundings for several hundred years more when properly managed, some eventually becoming recognised “Champion Trees” in their own right. Caring for such trees is a job for experienced specialist arborists and not one to be tasked to someone without experience.
The National Tree Register should always be checked before such works to see if you are dealing with a registered nationally important specimen tree. trees should also be checked with your Local Authority to ascertain if there area any Tree Preservation Orders in place. We can put you in touch with tree specialists with experience of garden restoration if necessary.
Additionally when completing any ground works we make sure to avoid root damage of all trees and shrubs by soil compaction or digging. This can be fatal over time affecting root structure and drainage which may not have changed for centuries.
Planting carefully selected well formed young specimen trees is a good starting point to any historic garden restoration project where space allows. We can offer a wealth of advice in this area, just get in touch to enquire.
